To me, if you are going to stay open year round, and force people to sit outside, you need to provide some heaters, or warn people on your site that they need to bring parkas! Weird.
Most of the seating is outdoors. We had a large party of 9 people. Since we had little kids, we were told we could not sit inside. Ok... It was cold and slightly breezy (even the hostess had a jacket on), but we did see a few outdoor heaters, so thought we'd still be safe. However, those heaters were only in the bar area. We asked if there were any seating areas with heaters and were told the few they had were all in the area, in which they had closed off to host a wedding party. Needless to say, we didn't stay. The menu changes every day, but we didn't stay to try it.
To the management staff, if this is ever read: Our bartender was a petite female with dark hair who's name (according to our ticket) starts with C.
The location and setting is very nice. We did not try the food but Im sure it would have been fine. The drinks, once received, were decent.
There's a variety of all relaxing, unqiue, and comfortable seating options. The second time I went was the same day but with our family. It was more crowded a little later, but still plenty of seating. Child friendly but still fun for adults.
Our bartender, however, was awful.
Our first and only visit was on an off-season Saturday early afternoon. Of course there were people there but it was not busy by any means (speaking from 8 years of restaurant experience).
Great casual walk up and order place. I had the oysters and fish n chips. The fish n chips were really good. We docked our boat right off their boardwalk and ate outside. Service was very friendly.
I have been here a few times now and just love the atmosphere. Its perfect for a date or to bring friends and family to gather and enjoy inspired dishes and tasty cocktails. Even the gift shop is great which wouldn't sway me to visit anywhere but is cool enough to mention.
I and my family had a great time at The Gulf. First stopped by with my boyfriend and had no idea what to expect. Fantastic surprise! We loved the atmosphere and aesthetics. It was casual and friendly without being generic. We ordered two local beers and crab cakes which were amazing! - even if a tad over priced.
Overall I would highly recommend making this a stop! I loved it more than any other restaurant we visited.
The absolute lack of acknowledgement and delay in service was unbelievable. It wasn't just our party experiencing this, but a quite a few people on the unattended water side of the bar were having the same issue.
